The concept of Farm-To-Fork, knowing where one’s food comes from, is a growing trend in America. There are many reasons for this. Some people are concerned about the safety of our food supply, and want to know the person who is growing or raising the products that they are putting into their body.

Some people see the value in keeping their money in the local economy, and supporting local producers, in turn, has a net positive impact on rural communities.

Some people see the cost-advantages to purchasing locally. And some people just realize that food grow locally tastes thousands of times better than that which has been shipped thousands of miles and artificially ripened (if not artificially grown from the start).

We see the value in connecting the farmer to the consumer, hence, “Farm-to-Fork”. If you are a farmer who wants to get in our database of producers, or if you are a consumer who is interested in sourcing your food locally, please visit our website: www.goodamericanpost.com, and click on the link to email us about Farm-to-Fork.

Beltsville, MD – Down a winding country road in Garnett, Kansas stands the Bauman farm, where agriculture is a family affair. Upon purchasing the farm in 2001, the family’s first farm venture was to raise pastured chickens and livestock. Today, the Baumans sell about 7,000 broiler chickens each year and an average 350 dozen eggs a week.

With the help of a grant from the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program, the Baumans experimented with pasturing different species of animals in the same area. With the “pasture stacking” project, the family increased their broiler chickens’ average weight by 50 percent.

Rosanna, the eldest of the Bauman girls, explains that the weight increase was due in part to the addition of a new water system. “The project had a positive social impact on us kids,” explains Rosanna. “It has led each of us to take steps towards farming sustainably.”

Rosanna is just one of dozens of young people returning to the roots of American agriculture who are featured in a new book—Youth Renewing the Countryside. Produced by Renewing the Countryside in partnership with young writers and photographers across the country and with support from SARE and the Center for Rural Strategies, Youth Renewing the Countryside shares remarkable stories of young people in each state changing the world through rural renewal.

In an interesting interview with Glenn Beck, founder of WallBuilders, David Barton, discussed the “Black Regiment” which later became known as the “Black Robe Brigade”. We’ll give you the links, so that you can read at-length, however the conclusion of his conversation with Beck is what is so important to remember.

Our country was built upon the concept of INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. This is very different from COLLECTIVE RIGHTS. Individual rights allow for individuals to have freedom to do what they like, as long as they are not hurting anyone else. Collective rights, as we are witnessing more and more, can quickly tromp the rights of the individual for the rights of “the greater good”.

Although Americans, in general, are kind and giving people who really DO care about the collective (and take care of the collective using a free market and paying certain taxes), that does not mean in any way shape or form should be be forced into taking care of the collective.

Individual rights are considered God-given rights that each of us has to take care of our body, mind, and spirit. When these are taken away, be become slaves to a system – probably one of governance.

Know your history, be a patriot, and stand up for this great country and the principles she was founded upon.

Being an avid fan of good food, it has take many years to learn about the food industry, and I learn more every day.

From many sources comes the bashing of the big-box store Wal-Mart, and its industry practices that make it a market-leader (i.e. cutting prices and cutting what is paid to the producer, forcing producers to change and “accelerate” their practices).

What I do know, as that is only does so much good to continually harp on the culprit, what REALLY needs to happen, is consumers have to start learning about their food sources, CARING, and then paying a higher premium for local and sustainably-grown or sustainably-raised food. That’s it – it is going to have to come from the consumer. That is how the market, essentially, works.

So in defense of freedom of choice, liberty, and the free-market – let’s win over consumers with good marketing and sustainable practices. This is a much more positive and productive way of changing a fairly centralized food-supply – and that is what our publication is all about. Free Markets – New Media, Postive and Sustainable Change, through supporting local communities and building local economies.

We have been getting a lot of traffic on our previous post on the Slaughter Rule/Slaughter Solution, and rightly so.

If this procedure is used, it is a direct violation of our constitution – Article 1, Section 7:

“Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it becomes a Law, be presented to the President of the United States.”

This is an unprecedented act by our so-called representatives, and if this does happen to be how this legislation passes, then we must make great strides in finding elected REPRESENTATIVES who will repeal such an terrible act against our country and instead FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION and listen to WE THE PEOPLE.

The Heritage Foundation has a more at-length article, you can read such here: http://blog.heritage.org/2010/03/16/obamacare-slaughter-rule-is-without-precedent/
